FURTHER proof that the next roach record may well be caught from a man-made venue came last week when a
3lb 11oz redfin was banked in a carp fishing match.

This huge roach was landed on a size 4 hook

Tomasz Górecki was taking part in a qualifier for the Polish Carp Masters on Brasenose One at Oxford’s Linear Fisheries when the fish took his 16mm pop-up, fished on a size four hook.

“I thought I’d hooked a bream, so when this roach neared the bank and I saw what it was, I was shocked!” he said.

“As a kid, I fished rivers for silverfish and maybe caught roach half its size. I was delighted to catch it, even though it didn’t put up much of a fight on my carp rod!”
