Gigantic Scottish pike ‘gets the adrenaline going!’

Most of the really big pike we’re sent these days come from trout waters, but there are still some true wild beasts living in lesser-known waterways, such as this 39lb 5oz giant landed from a scenic Scottish Loch.

It was caught by Michael Lawlor during a session lasting several days on the water, but was taken just 30 minutes after he cast out a legered mackerel.

Although on connecting with the fish he knew it was a good one, his initial estimate was that it was perhaps ‘a good ‘twenty’.

However, once in the net he knew it was over the 30lb mark, having landed fish above that weight before.

At just 11oz short of 40lb, it set a new PB and, in Michael’s words, ‘Got the adrenaline going!’
