If you live near running water or have watched any videos on social media, you will have seen the unprecedented flooding in some parts of the country recently. Tremendous amounts of rain have caused many rivers to burst their banks, none more so than the River Wye. In fact, the flooding was so severe that fish were left helpless in fields with no way back to the river.
Alfie Rock, who has rescued floundering fish before, had heard reports that some pike had become stranded on playing fields facing his tackle shop. These fish had ventured onto the area to escape the strong currents but failed to return in time as the water receded, leaving them trapped. Death seemed almost certain until Alfie stepped in to help.

"The River Wye floods into the field just outside my tackle shop, and this isn’t the first time I’ve rescued pike from the flooded field," Alfie told us.
"So, after hearing reports of stranded fish, I threw on my waders and headed straight over. I took two carp slings, not expecting to find so many fish, but I figured I’d be prepared just in case!"
"I saved them simply out of my love for the sport of fishing—and honestly, why not? If I’m in a position and capable of saving a fish, then why wouldn’t I? More importantly, who wouldn’t," he explained.
"We rescued five pike, with sizes ranging from low doubles to a scraper 20. Among them was a cute little jack weighing around 6lbs."
