A historic venue is set to gain a major makeover that will secure its future for angling.
Yorkshire’s Worsbrough Reservoir has welcomed countless superstars, with the likes of Tommy Pickering, Denis White and Dick Clegg all regular visitors in years gone by.
Big hauls of silverfish were solely the name of the game in the 80s and 90s and although they are still on the cards, it has diversified with several large stockings of carp.

It’s a move that has significantly boosted the venue’s popularity, bringing back a booming match scene, while also getting the thumbs up from pleasure anglers.
One negative in recent years has been the crumbling banks, but that is now being addressed, with a big money project currently ongoing to make them safer and more accessible.
The reservoir’s water level has been lowered to allow the work to be completed in the coming months, but with depths of up to 9ft still remaining, no fish have had to be removed and angling continues.
It’s certainly had no impact on the quality of action and top local expert Nick Speed said: “Worsbrough is in the form of its life and whether you fancy catching 100lb of carp on the feeder or 30lb of roughsilvers on the pole, now is the time to give it a crack.”
Worsbrough is controlled by Barnsley DAAS, with day and season permits available. For more details call 07763 967261.
