When Northamptonshire Specimen Group member Adam Riches was greeted with low, clear conditions on a small southern river, he knew he’d have to adapt to have a chance of catching its barbel.

So, Adam reduced the size of his lead and hook, as well as going for a small homemade hookbait.

After quietly casting out, he made every effort to keep disturbance to a minimum, and was rewarded an hour later when he hooked this pristine 17lb 8oz fish, that he said fought well in the snaggy swim he was targeting.
