Mammoth pike ends blank run on water with only two known fish

Rotherham angler Ash Morton had always dreamed of catching a 30lb-plus pike and last week, while targeting a natural water, that dream became a reality when he landed this 39lb 4oz stunner.

He’d endured a tough campaign up until then, targetinga venue known to hold two large fish.

The blank sessions had been mounting up, but after trying a new area, he had a take on a herring deadbait which he’d just repositioned.

A relatively uneventful fight followed, before Ash saw the huge predator surface and called his friend John over to help with the netting process.

He described the feeling as the mammoth non-trout water pike was landed as one that he was “never likely to match again”.
