While 13 is unlucky for some, that certainly wasn’t the case for Dan Taylor as on his thirteenth night on a private southern syndicate water he landed the venue’s biggest carp in the form of this 61lb common.
Arriving to a busy lake, the Kent-based rod found a swim free on the end of the wind where he’d caught from on a previous trip. A spot on the far margin was then baited with around 3kg of mixed Mainline Baits Cell and Iso Fish boilies soaked in Sweetcorn Smart Liquid with Super Buoyant Cell 14mm pop-ups fished onhinge rigs presented over the top.

“The first night was quiet, but at 5.30am the next morning my right-hand rod was away which resulted in a 33lb 9oz mirror,” he told Angling Times.
“Just as I netted it, I had a take on my left-hand rod and after a short battle the big common went in the net first time.”
His new PB and second UK sixty was followed up with two further mirrors weighing 32lb 4oz and 23lb 2oz.
