Huge crucian for Drennan Cup champ

Despite winning the Drennan Cup this year, Dan Woolcott has continued his fine form and has already notched up two new awards for the upcoming season with a fine 3lb roach and this fantastic 4lb crucian carp.

Fishing at Sutton Lake in Shropshire, Dan had a few days and nights at his disposal and with the weather conditions looking promising, he really fancied his chances from this tricky venue. Utilising his favoured method feeder tactics, Dan packed Dynamite Baits Green Lipped Mussel groundbait around the feeder, opting for a single grain of corn as a hookbait.

“One other thing I did that’s slightly different from the norm in crucian fishing was to use a real grain of corn on the hook," Dan told us.

"Plastic baits are incredibly popular for the species and do, of course, work. But, for me, it’s always a compromise using them."

The change to real corn from plastic definitely worked on this occasion as Dan had a successful session, landing plenty of crucian carp including a 3lb 11oz fish and his new PB of 4lb exactly.

“The tactic worked a treat, and over a few days’ fishing I landed a few good ‘twos’, a 3lb 11oz fish and a PB of 4lb exactly," he said.
