MONSTER perch and ‘eels as thick as your arm’ were discovered during renovation work last week at one of Britain’s most popular commercial fisheries.
Staff at Lincolnshire’s Lindholme Lakes were netting the venue’s Bonsai Pool when, to their surprise, they found numbers of perch over 4lb and over 30 eels, many of which were around the 5lb mark, topped by one 8lb beast.
“It’s incredible what’s in there,” said fishery owner, Neil Grantham.
“We knew there were some big perch, but nobody ever catches the eels. The biggest was just huge – you couldn’t get your hands around it! Perhaps it explains why some anglers are snapped off by huge, unstoppable fish.”
Bonsai is set to reopen on April 1, and Neil expects the fishing to be ‘fantastic’ now that it’s been reshaped and had tonnes of silt removed.
