Arlow Picksley and his dad Dan visited a private pond to target perch and were rewarded with a frantic 30-minute feeding spell that produced seven fish between them.

The pair spent the first hour catching small roach to use as livebait, but when the silvers suddenly vanished from the swim, it was clear predators had moved in, and a switch in approach quickly paid off.

Over the next half hour, they landed seven perch in quick succession. Four were caught on small roach livebaits, while three fell five dendrobaenas on a bobber rig.

Three of the perch topped the 40cm mark, with the largest weighing 3lb 5oz.

Then, just as quickly as it started, the feeding frenzy ended, the pond fell quiet, underlining how short these windows can be when targeting bigger perch.
