THIS year’s pike season has been remarkable, with 30-pounders being caught pretty much every week since the start of winter.
Kirie Hughes is the latest to get among the heavyweights, with this 36lb 4oz fish from a large Welsh stillwater.
After being invited along by a few of his mates, he dug out some old carp gear and, after casting out a mackerel deadbait, soon connected with a fish that stripped line from his reel at a rate of knots.
When it surfaced, Kirie said the fish was so big it ‘looked like a seal’!
