HUGE STURGEON LANDED FROM MIDLANDS RIVER

THERE’S been a big rise in reports of sturgeon from British rivers this season, and whilst most come from the Trent, some, like this 50lb beast, are finding their way into other venues.

European sturgeon were once widespread in UK waters, so it’s perhaps not a surprise to see fish like the one landed by Jeremy Botham, thriving elsewhere.

He targeted the fish in a stretch of the River Soar at Sutton Bonnington, having lost it right at the net at the start of the season.

“After four months of fishing weekends I finally managed to land the one I was after – it’s was my toughest angling challenge to date,” he said.

“I had it on a chunk of luncheon meat and it put up an incredible fight!”
