There was no shortage of top-flight match action being staged yesterday, with many claiming that June 14 2023 may have been the calendars most action-packed day in recent times.

Qualifiers and festivals were held at prolific venues up and down the land, with over 400 anglers taking part in five standout showdowns.

The three-day Tunnel Barn Daiwa Masters event once again attracted a whole host of stars including Andy Bennett and Jamie Hughes, but it was current Fish O’Mania champion Kristian Jones that came out on top overall with a perfect three-point score. That landed him the trophy, a Daiwa Air Z Pro pole worth over £5,000 and a hefty cheque.

Silverfish were on the agenda at Tamar Lakes in the south west, with the sold out West Fest attended by the likes of Darren Cox and Des Shipp.

This was the third of four days of action, and it was tight at the top going into the final session, with Matt Pillay on 120lb 10oz and Frankie Gianoncelli just behind on 117lb 10oz.

Qualifiers were also plentiful, with Partridge Lakes hosting the latest Fish O’Mania heat. The Cheshire complex welcomed 97 competitors and at the end of the battle, it was Dave Shires that scooped a place in the final with 159lb 10oz from peg 146 on Covey Six.

Further south at Worcestershire’s Larford Lakes there was a Golden Reel qualifier, and several mammoth weights were recorded. The Specimen Lake dominated the frame, with Jack O’Sullivan's breath-taking 331lb haul sealing the victory.
