Just two casts were all Dave Robinson needed to bank one of the largest braces of perch ever taken in British waters.
In one incredible session at a 50-acre Cambridgeshire gravel pit he caught fish weighing 5lb 4oz and 5lb 1oz, with both falling to what is arguably the simplest rig of all – freelined lobworms.
Remarkably, Suffolk-based Dave caught them both during the hours of darkness, after walking tirelessly around the lake and peering into the gin-clear water with his headtorch, searching for fish on the marginal shelf.

“My mind was well and truly blown with these fish," he told us.
"Lapping the lake as many times as possible was the trick to catching them, and I was certainly rewarded for my efforts this time!”
