RIVER pike over 30lb are rare and elusive creatures, but Norfolk angler Jack Turner defied the odds by catching this 33lb 13oz specimen – despite having only recently taken up predator fishing!
Targeting a waterway in the heart of his home county, Jack and his cousin Francis got to the bank at 4.30am on a frosty morning, and cast out their deadbaits soon afterwards.
It didn’t take long for Jack’s floatfished smelt to be picked up by the immense pike, which he said gave him an incredible battle in the margins of the river, making a series of savage lunges for the snags.
Thankfully his tackle held firm, and Jack was soon looking down in awe at the huge fish secured in the bottom of his landing net.
