Match fishing sensation Kristian Jones quickly put the disappointment of being unable to retain his Fish O’Mania title behind him by putting in a record-breaking performance at Lincolnshire’s Lindholme Lakes.

Widely regarded as one of the brightest talents on the open circuit, the Wirral-based star was determined to get back to winning ways during the venue’s annual five-day summer festival.

Kristian got off to a flying start, fishing maggots shallow on the long pole to bag a big F1 almost every chuck for the first three hours. His skill showed when he made the brave decision to abandon that line and switch to dead maggots over groundbait down the edge, with big carp more than willing to respond to his tactics.

Come the weigh in it was clear that he’d put a phenomenal weight together and it was soon confirmed that his total of 441lb was enough to obliterate the previous Bonsai Lake record.

Kristian is currently tied on a perfect score with four other anglers after two sessions, although plenty of twists and turns are guaranteed in the next three days. With elite anglers including Andy Bennett, new Fish O’Mania champion Matty Dawes and Nick Speed all taking part, it is impossible to call who will be crowned overall champion at this early stage.
