It didn't take Kristian Jones long to get his name down for one of the big money finals as he won the first Golden Reel qualifier this weekend, at Cheshire's Partridge Lakes.

Drawing peg 4 on Willow Lake, Kristian was pleased with the draw knowing the lake has some form at this time of year.

"Willow is an awesome lake so was happy to be on here today as I knew I would get some bites," he said.

"Spoke to Andy Bennett as I knew he’d been on this peg in the past on a qualifier and he gave me some good advice, I’ve just set up to fish meat short and casters and worms across up and down."

Using his own experience and some great advice from Andy, Kristian had a fantastic day's angling which saw him top the field in a closely fought match.

"Ended up having an amazing days fishing catching 55 f1s and 40lb of silvers for 174lb which was enough to win the qualifier and go through to the final."

"Got to say I needed a day like that today as my confidence has been low lately feeling like I’ve not been fishing well," he remarked.

The top five anglers on the day all recorded weights of over 120lb, with Dale Shepherd narrowly missing out with his weight of 167lb 8oz. Interestingly the top three weights recorded came from different lakes, proving it really could have been won from anywhere.
