Dan Hockaday couldn’t have asked for a better fish than this 43lb 10oz mirror carp – not only was it a new PB but it also set a lake record and secured him qualification for the BCAC semi-finals.
The impressive specimen known as 'Elvis' came with just five hours remaining in his BCAC qualifier at Walthamstow Resevoir 1 fishing from peg 5.

The 39-year-old from Colchester told Angling Times: “Myself and my partner were in fourth place with just a few hours remaining and knew just one decent fish would move us up to third place and qualify. A mid-twenty would be enough we thought.
“Our swim had appeared to switch off slightly and with nothing showing I decided to move a rod close to the island. Armed with a single Baitmonkey Chunky Monkey pop-up, I cast 88-yards and brushed the far bank margin with the rig. An hour later 'Elvis' was in my net and this was enough to secure third place as no more carp were landed.”
Dan presented his hookbait on Spinner rig tied with a 25lb Korda Boom and a size 5 Korda Spinner hook.
The 2023 BCAC semi-finals will take place on the weekend of July 14 with the final being fished at Broadlands Lake in Hampshire on September 8.
