AFTER months of blanking in pursuit of a big River Thames barbel, the angling gods finally delivered the goods for Buckinghamshire’s George Slingsby with this superb 17lb 3oz fish.
He’d been fishing three times a week without any joy but, knowing that the barbel in the stretch he was targeting were big, he remained motivated, and was finally rewarded when the huge fish picked up his Spam hookbait.
George revealed that after he hooked it, the fish ‘dragged him up and down the river’ during an unbelievable 10-minute fight. He described the catch as the best moment of his angling life.
