HAVING started a bream campaign on a new lake this spring, but with little to show for his efforts, James Champkin was feeling dejected. That was until last weekend, when he banked this fantastic 16lb slab from the venue!

The Milton Keynes angler had hoped to get among the fish early in the year, but when they spawned much earlier than usual he decided on a mini-campaign this autumn instead.

Targeting a gravel bar around 75 yards out, James fed a large bed of halibut pellets, particles, corn and broken boilies. Over the top, he cast Method feeders, wrapped in Marine Halibut Method Mix. Hookbaits were 12mm boilies tipped with plastic corn.

He added another bream of 12lb 13oz, as well as a couple of gate-crashing carp, during the same session.
