Sometimes, to catch the fish of your dreams, you have to put in serious effort—and occasionally, that extra effort is rewarded. This was certainly true for predator angler Steven Paterson, when the challenging trout water he has been fishing twice a week since it reopened for pike fishing in October finally yielded one of its giants, in the form of this stunning 30lb 8oz croc.

Steven believes it to be the first 'thirty' it has produced, further proving that sometimes you have to trust your fishing instincts because when you get it right, the fish you can catch are often worthwhile.

The fish fell to a popped-up joey mackerel deadbait that was fished at range in around 12ft of water where there had been quite a lot of trout activity, which Steven believed attracted the big girl in to the area.
