Fishing his local River Chelmer, Jon spent many hours walking and looking for fish, when he saw a big splash as a chub took a bug off the surface beneath a fallen tree.

"I cast a chunk of bread just past the overhang where I'd seen the fish and let the flow take it under the branches," he told us.

"Within seconds a chub hit the bread like a steam train, the line pinged tight and I connected with a fish that dived hard for the tree roots."

"I managed to bully it into open water and, when I finally landed it, I was delighted to see the scales hit 7lb 1oz."
