Barnsley’s Worsbrough Reservoir was closed for most of 2023 so that water levels could be dropped, and well overdue bank renovations could take place.

With the project finished and the water levels back up, the first open match was scheduled, with big weights predicted due to the high stocking of carp that are present.

The venue didn’t fail to deliver come the big day, with rod bending action on show in most areas.

Come the final whistle there was a clear winner, with local expert Nick Askey using Method feeder tactics for an incredible 215lb 15oz haul from peg 57 to obliterate the previous best.

Backing weights were equally impressive, with Ben Emsley securing second place with 189lb 4oz from peg 56, while Nick Speed was third with 88lb 6oz from peg 50. There were five sections spread across the reservoir on the day, with weights ranging between 49lb and 86lb required to win them.
