The managers of the England Ladies have selected their squad to compete in this year’s World Championships and there’s a brand-new face amongst the ranks.
Warwickshire’s Makins Fishery hosted the trial of 15 talented ladies and after a day where they all showcased their talents, the six that would represent the Three Lions later this year were revealed.
Experienced internationals Helen Dagnall, Kayleigh Dowd, Leanne Knott and Samantha Sim once again gained the nod, with Abbi Kendall returning after a period of absence from the scene.
May Potter finished the line-up off and will make her international bow after impressing team manager Dave Brooks.
Speaking after the assessment day, Dave said: “The standard was very high once again. The squad that has been selected is packed with anglers who have silverfish experience on natural waters – the same requirements which are needed for international competitions.”
He also had words of advice to those hoping to break into future squads, adding: “I’d urge all anglers who have ambitions to fish for England to incorporate regular natural water matches into their calendar each year as the more they can focus on float fishing for silverfish, the more it helps us to compete with the rest of the world at this level.”

The team will now start preparations for the event which will be held on Serbia’s Dunavac Canal on August 26 and 27.
The venue varies from 1.5m to 4m in depth and the flow is dependent on the water levels of the connecting Danube, with bream, roach, and bleak expected to be the dominant species.
