Mega 18lb-plus barbel tops run of 20 'doubles' for Trent angler

Tony Kay has enjoyed some superb recent sport on the River Trent, landing more than 20 ‘doubles’ topped by this 18lb 3oz fish.

The St Helens angler had enjoyed a memorable session a few weeks back, during which he landed a 15lb 1oz fish that was just shy of his PB at the time, so couldn’t wait to get out again.

Finding the river rising after heavy rain, a string of decent fish again followed before he hooked the ‘eighteen’ at 6.30am.

Boilie hookbaits fished alongside a large feeder filled with groundbait and pellets did the trick on each occasion.
