One of the biggest freshwater fish ever caught in the UK hit the bank last week when Dan Wadey landed this colossal 127lb catfish.

He caught it using a deadbait during a Catfish Conservation Group (CCG) ‘fish-in’ at Essex’s Chigborough Fisheries.

“I had a slow run and lifted into a dead weight, which then headed at speed for sanctuary behind an island,” Dan told us.

“But with extra pressure, I turned the fish and it headed towards my bank.”

At this point, other members of the CCG had gathered behind Dan.

“We all soon realised that she was the fish of many a beer-fuelled conversation, and indeed the stuff of dreams,” Dan added.

An increasingly popular species with UK anglers, the CCG "continue to push for the reclassification of the wels catfish and reinstatement of the British record."

Dan himself is a big advocate of using the correct tackle when fishing for catfish, recently sharing the below graphic for those who might be interested in targeting the species.
