Most big crucians are caught on the Method feeder, but Simon Bull showed that the pole can also produce the goods when he used one to bank this 4lb 3oz specimen.

He was fishing a Surrey stillwater – one not on the Marsh Farm complex – and targeted an area 8m out using a 4mm expander pellet on the hook, to which he’d added a little sweet flavouring. He presented this over small nuggets of groundbait, fed regularly.

Upon hooking the four-pounder, Simon wondered if a tench had muscled in on the action, so he was delighted to see his target species surface. He’d had another chunky crucian over 3lb earlier in the day to complete a memorable session.
