Catching big eels by design can be a difficult task that requires some skilled angling. That's exactly what Justin Stoddart found after a run of blanks on conventional specimen eel tactics forced him to change his approach.

Float fishing was the answer for Justin, as it offered the ultimate resistance free presentation at close range. The tactic quickly rewarding him with this giant 6lb 3oz specimen.

"Eels feed best at night, so I banded a luminous Starlite on to the top of the waggler and I have to say it led to some of the most exciting fishing you can imagine," he told us.

"In a split second, the calm night exploded as a big angry eel ploughed into the bank - I was absolutely buzzing with this fish."
