“For the past three years I’ve been fishing a private lake, hoping to catch a huge sturgeon that lives there. I’d never had much luck, but that all changed a few weeks ago.
“The fish hadn’t been out for a while, so I visited the lake regularly, knowing that I had a chance.
“My approach was simply to use luncheon meat in the margins, around 8ft from the bank, and when I finally connected with my target fish, the fight was incredible. On a small, strong 6ft rod the sturgeon took around 20 minutes to land, but all the effort was worth it.”
