Mythical Suffolk chub is a real monster for the region

When it comes to big chub, the bountiful waterways of southern England generally dominate catch reports.

However, there are some very large fish residing in other parts of the country too, as Harvey Jackson proved with this 7lb 5oz specimen landed from a river near his home in Suffolk.

It’s a huge fish for the region and is arguably the equivalent of a good eight- pounder from a more renowned river.

“The fish was caught after many freezing nights spent walking a favourite stretch of mine,” said the 20-year-old.

“I had the bite a short while after midnight, with simple link-legered cheesepaste producing the goods. It’s an almost mythical fish for this county!” he added
