One of the most fiercely contested silverfish leagues in the land came to a dramatic conclusion as the winner nicked victory in the final match.

A field of 50 anglers entered the eagerly awaited tournament at Coventry's Meadowlands Fisheries, with the likes of Darren Cox, Adam Wakelin and Simon Willsmore amongst those taking part in the six-match series.

There was lots of action for all the anglers during the series.

Several contenders were in with a shot of scooping overall glory during the final event and after a tense five hour affair, it was Steve Winter that was crowned champion.

The Drennan backed star has been in consistent form throughout winter and that continued as he worked his way to a 33lb netful of silvers that bagged him the important section win. That saw him finish with a six point total that gave him the £550 payday.

There was a four-way tie on points for second, with Cameron Hughes, Sean Ashby, Steve Hemingray and Steve Harwood all on nine, with Sean edging it thanks to a superior weight count back.
