A NEW drive that hopes to boost angling participation by appealing to a more diverse audience has been launched by the Angling Trust.

Recent research has shown that 95 per cent of current anglers are male. In a bid to broaden angling’s appeal, the new ‘We Fish as One Community Outreach Programme’ will run seven pilot days in locations from County Durham to London, where the focus will be on building relationships with community groups, charities, and other interested parties.

Clive Copeland, head of participation at the Trust, said: “The new campaign takes a realistic look at the barriers to picking up a fishing rod that we know still exist for everyone in our neighbourhoods.

“It includes working on representation, inclusivity, and building up grassroots angling infrastructure so everyone knows how to access the sport.”
