FOR most of us, a successful session would be half-a-dozen decent fish, but Ian Potts showed just what’s possible on the River Trent when the cards fall in your favour by banking 52 barbel on a recent trip.
The species expert wasn’t on the prolific Collingham or Gunthorpe weir stretches, which have produced such remarkable hauls in recent seasons, but on a quiet stretch of the ‘middle river’.
After a busy day at work, he set up at 8pm, and didn’t have to wait long for some action.
“I’d not fished the peg before, and was just hoping for a few fish, but that first night I had 15!” he said.
“I got a bit of rest during the day, but over the next two nights, the bites were non-stop. I took 12 doubles, the biggest weighing 13lb 9oz, as well as 10 chub!
"I had lots on pellet hookbaits, before switching to boilies to try to target the bigger fish.”
