Spring has well and truly sprung and the tench have started being caught by anglers up and down the country. Tench are often a fish anglers look to target as the temperatures begin to warm up and it seems those who have decided to make tench their main priority have seen their effort being rewarded.
Lee Fisher is one angler who has caught a fantastic fish on a recent session to a local pond, when he landed seven tench with this fantastic 8lb 12oz tench, being the best of the session.
Lee used his favoured flatbed Method Feeder tactics with a small pellet hookbait, with pellets and groundbait moulded around the feeder. With only two big tench in the lake, Lee managed his target with the bigger of the two fish the lake is known for from a swim he had recently prepped.
"I've caught some cracking Tench in the handful of trips I've done so far this spring, but I know there are one or two really big ones in there."
"Today, amongst the seven Tench I landed, I caught the big one I was after," Lee told us.

Specimen ace, Matt Fernandez was out for his first session of the year targeting tench and it seems it was the right time to try.
"My first tench session of the spring couldn‘t have gone any better," he said.
“With temperatures still low, I didn’t really fancy my chances, but I thought I should give it a go anyway."
“Usually, I like to fish boilies, but with the weather still cold I decided to scale things down. Light 1lb TC rods, small reels, 6lb mainline, Embed feeders, short three- inch hooklinks and single buoyant caster hookbaits were my choice.
“On arrival, I kicked off with a small amount of Spombed Dynamite Baits hemp, 4mm pellets and groundbait, plus some casters.
“The night passed quietly but, from first light, the bites came thick and fast. Eight tench came to the net, the one pictured being the biggest. I’d left my scales in my other fishing bag, so I was unable to weigh anything!”

Iwona Kepa enjoyed a great session over on St. Johns at Linear Fisheries in Oxford, catching a superb 8lb 2oz tench. Iwona was fishing boilies on a gravel bar at around 40 yards, on simple hair rig tactics to trip up the specimen.
