The most anticipated and highly debated tackle product for many years has hit the shelves in tackle shops across the UK today (see price details below).

OMC's 'Magic Twig' caused quite the controversy after the product was revealed on YouTube a week or so ago, with several fisheries choosing to ban the unique new carp fishing tackle item. The tide, however, has slowly been turning as more is being revealed about the product, which from today anglers will be able to try out themselves.

So what is the Magic Twig? Essentially the device, which connects into traditional carp angling lead clips, helps hook carp more efficiently, thanks to a spring loaded mechanism that can be triggered by certain pressures when a fish takes your bait.

Angling Times recently picked the brains of OMC's Ali Hamidi, to find out more about how it works, an article you can read in this week's magazine or on our member's site here.

The Magic Twig is a device to help with the hooking of carp and is available in three different strengths – light, medium and heavy.

These aren’t breaking strains, more the power of the triggering device. The light is triggered at 4.5oz, the medium at 6.5oz and the heavy at 8.5oz

Pros

  • A unique and exciting new product for carp anglers.
  • Will reduce fish losses due to bungee effect.

Cons

  • Banned at some venues.

The Magic Twig is now on sale at Angling Direct stores across the country plus 25 other retailers, with stock no doubt highly in demand due to the inevitable intrigue of the country's army or carp anglers.

WHERE CAN I USE THE MAGIC TWIG?

At present it is best to double check the fishery rules at your chosen venue before adding the Magic Twig to your carp rigs, as several, including some well known venues, have banned the product until convinced more on its safety from their own testing.

The product has been backed and is permitted, however, at some of the UK's most popular venues, including Linear Fisheries and Todber Manor, not to mention the UK's best big carp syndicate, Grenville.

Popular venues where the Magic Twig is currently banned include Coking Farm, Farlows and Berners Hall.

It is worth noting that several fisheries have reversed the decision to ban the product after closer inspection, so keep up to date with your chosen venues social pages for updates relating to rules.

Angling Times will give a full and detailed review on the product once we have had a sufficient amount of time to test it in a variety of fishing scenarios.

HOW TO SET UP ‘THE MAGIC TWIG’

1 - Slide your lead clip and any leaders or tubing you wish to use on to the mainline as usual.

2 - Take out your Magic Twig. There are two per pack, available in three strengths.

3 - Next, tie your mainline to the size 8 swivel attached to the Magic Twig.

4 - Pull the lead clip and Magic Twig together so they click into place firmly.

5 - Loop your rig on to the QC swivel at the other end, or tie direct and slide over a sleeve.

6 - The device has small two arms that lock securely into place in grooves.

7 - To engage the device, rotate the bottom so the arms and grooves can push together.

8 - To stop the device triggering when casting, tie PVA tape around the groove below the arms.
