One of the all-time great specimen roach hauls caught

Reports have come to light of a staggering roach catch, in which 30 roach over the 2lb mark were banked.

The fish were caught over two sessions by specimen angler Terry Theobald from a Shropshire Lake, where maggot feeder tactics did all the damage.

If the sheer number of fish wasn’t impressive enough, Terry also landed a pair of three-pounders, the bigger one weighing 3lb 1oz. Amazingly, he only had one roach under 2lb!

“They were two sessions like no other,” Terry told us.

“On the first trip a light south-westerly wind was blowing, with the odd bit of drizzle. I had 17 roach that day between 2lb 1oz and 2lb 15oz.”

Unsurprisingly, he couldn’t wait to get back, and returned a few weeks later.

“This time it was colder, with a light northerly wind blowing, combined with heavy cloud and odd sunny spells. I had 14 fish, but they were bigger – all but one over 2lb, with the best four weighing 3lb 1oz, 3lb, 2lb 15oz and 2lb 14oz,” he said.

Two-ounce feeders combined with short hooklinks and size 14 hooks on Korum ready-rigs were Terry’s successful set-up.

“I recast every 40 minutes to an hour, and the roach quickly obliged,” he added.
