Only bite of the session breaks venue record

A lot of carp anglers are happy to get one bite during a session to avoid the dreaded blank, and if you only have one bite, you could do far worse than Craig Lowe, who's single bite during his session at Westmore Farm Fishery, resulted in this new personal best and complex record of 51lb exactly.

The South Yorkshire rod was on the Lincolnshire venue’s Specimen Lake and spread his rods over three spots, in the hope of intercepting a fish rather than trying to draw lots of fish onto a spot. He baited each sparingly with pellets and crushed boilies.

Craig deployed his favoured snowman rigs on all the rods, baiting them with his faithful Mainline Baits Diamond White bottom baits topped with half a pop-up.

“At 8pm on the second day my margin rod screamed off. As the fish approached the net I could see that it was a big one," Craig said.

“The owner came to help weigh the fish, as this was the first 50lb-plus carp the complex has produced."

"I didn’t have any more after this one, but I certainly wasn’t complaining – I can’t wait to return for another trip,” he added.
