Whilst many fish the River Trent for the amazing big barbel that are present, there are some who choose to target the river's impressive stock of big carp.

One such angler is Christopher Mendelsohn, who on a recent session banked his 13th carp over 30lb from a non-tidal stretch of the Midlands waterway.

An epic Trent common.

Known for their incredible fighting power, the awesome 31lb 2oz river carp put up an epic battle, taking Chris through two weedbeds in a tussle that lasted over 20 minutes.

"After it ripped off at around 2am, I had to follow it with my net over my head, but eventually got the old, wild and battle-scared Trent warrior in the net," he told us.

The fish took one of Chris' own 30mm Bio Baits Fatal Discharge boilies tipped with a Garlic Overload pop-up, fished snowman style. This trap was placed by hand in 3ft of water off the front of a weedbed - superb angling!
