A holiday in Dorset proved memorable for Dylan Brockhurst as he smashed his personal best with this 43lb 3oz common carp.

After discovering that Longham Lakes was only down the road from where he was staying, the 17-year-old decided to give it a go.

Setting up in a swim called 'The Point' where he'd seen a couple of fish showing in a bay to his right, Dylan spread 30 boilies around the area and cast a BA Baits DSX Bread White 14mm pop-up on a chod rig over the top.

"After five hours without any action I suddenly had a slow take with the bobbin pulling up tight before falling slack," he told Angling Times.

"As soon as I connected with the carp I knew it was good one from the way it was slowly plodding about.  I finally got it in the edge and when I slipped it over the cord I could see it was a big fish but little did I know it was actually the biggest common in the lake!

"It tipped the scales at 43lb 3oz and smashed my previous personal best by 12lb! What made this extra special is that I had been told by local anglers on the lake that it is a difficult venue with bites few and far between. So to manage a bite on my first trip and to land the big one was a feeling like no other!" he added.
