FLY fishing for pike is growing in popularity, and you can see why, when fish like this 33lb 8oz specimen fall to the tactic.
It was banked by St Neots angler Thomas Finney, who had endured a slow day on the gin-clear water of a large Midlands reservoir before deciding on a smaller fly. It worked a treat, and on his first cast he received a gentle tap and connected with the huge fish, that went on a blistering run. Eventually, Thomas managed to land the new PB, which beat his old best by more than 6lb.
Two casts later, he had another bite as his fly fell through the water. This time the culprit was a 21lb 8oz fish.
