Red prawn produces personal best perch

After landing a fine perch of 3lb 4oz, Matthew Fernandez was eager to return to the same stillwater in search of an even bigger specimen.

Given the warm conditions, he knew it’d be his last time targeting the species before spring got into full swing. One of his rods was fished with a link-legered prawn hookbait, while on the other he fished
a prawn beneath a pole float. Both baits had been soaked in Dynamite Baits Predator Plus liquid, and he loosefed maggots over the top.

It was an hour before he had a take, but then, at 6pm Matthew’s float slid slowly away and he hooked a fish that he assumed to be a carp. When he saw it roll on the surface, though, he knew he’d connected with a very large perch, and managed to retain his composure before slipping the net under the 4lb 8oz new personal best.
