Most of the ide in British waters are small fish residing in commercial fisheries, but one or two find their way into natural venues and grow to impressive sizes.

Mike Hart found out just how big last week when he banked this fish of 8lb exactly from a disused drain!
The East Yorkshire angler was fishing a spinner in the weedy venue, hoping for perch, when he connected with the fish that’s just 5oz off the current British Record.

“This water is rarely fished and is thick with weed, so it generally puts the majority of anglers off fishing here,” he explained.

"Venues that are left to themselves always throw up surprises, you never really know what has found its way into the water."

It hit the spinner and didn’t put up much of a fight, before popping up on the surface like a bream."

"An ide was the last fish I expected would take my spinner, I didn't even know they would take them in the first place."

No I know there is at least one fish present, I think I’ll go back and have another proper try for them so watch this space,” he concluded!
