Rig change brings 14lb brace of chub

Rig change brings 14lb brace of chub

Sometimes making just slight adjustments to your rigs can bring big results, as proven by former Drennan Cup champion Simon Daley this past week with the capture of a superb 7lb 7oz chub.

Fishing a stretch of the River Thames, Simon usually targets chub with boilies and a heavy inline lead, with a short six-inch hooklink. On this occasion, however, after just getting taps and knocks, he decided to increase the length to 12-inches and shorten his hair rig so the bait was tight to the hook.

"It wasn't long before I had a proper wrap-round and netted what was clearly a large chub," he told us.

"As I was sorting the fish, my other rod went too and I netted another good chub.

"The first fish went 7lb 7oz and had a huge frame. I reckon it'd be a big 'eight' at the end of the season.

"The second fish weighed 6lb 9oz, giving me a cracking brace, and shortly after I had another of 6lb 3oz - clear proof the rig change had worked."
