The Angling Times columnist got the day off to the perfect start when he picked a fancied swim in the form of peg 110 on Overton Lake out of the draw bag.

A quick decision to fish at 54m was made before Steve introduced eight large feederfuls of micro pellets, dead maggots and casters.

It took 45-minutes for the first bite to come his way and it was then a case of making regular alterations to keep runs of fish coming.

By the time the final whistle went, he had landed 15 bream and five skimmers that went 111lb to give the maestro the victory.
