Salisbury specimen hunter Mark Woodage landed this 17lb 11oz PB Hampshire Avon barbel after enduring a series of blanks.

In torrential rain, he placed his hookbait on the edge of a clear patch of gravel, and just on dark his centrepin burst into life as a powerful fish took his double 12mm boilie hookbait.

Although the fish flat-rodded him, he managed to finally land it. Mark fished his boilies alongside a small PVA bag of freebies on a size 12 barbel hook, tied to a braided hooklink carrying a series of small lead weights to hold the tackle tight to the river bed.
