A 14-YEAR-OLD lad underlined the wonderful unpredictability of angling last week when he landed this superb
3lb 1oz roach from his local park lake.
Lancashire angler Lewis Kennedy had ventured out on a carp session but decided to take along a float rod and a box of lighter tackle to keep him occupied while he waited for a run.
“After I’d got my carp rods sorted, I set up the float rod and fished by a bush in the margins,” he told us.
“I fed a little hemp and corn, before dropping a large worm on a size 12 over the top.” After about 15 minutes, the float shot under, and Lewis hooked what he first thought was a small carp.
“The fish bolted for the snags, and as it neared the net I realised what I’d landed was one of the lake’s large roach. At 3lb 1oz, it’s the biggest I’ve ever caught – I was buzzing!” he added.
