Enormous bream landed by schoolboy

Bream are a fish that divide the angling community. While carp anglers often see them as pests, specimen and match anglers love catching them. Even though they aren't everyone's favourite, when bream grow to the epic proportions of the one Joey Mehmet caught, it's hard to deny how impressive they can be.

For those that target bream, they may never catch one as big as this 15lb 8oz fish that Joey managed to land on a session with his dad after school. It might well be one of the best fish he ever lands and he has achieved it right at the start of his angling journey.

"After picking up Joey from school we headed straight to Swangey Lakes, Norfolk. He decided he wanted to fish a float on one rod, a second rod for bream, and a third for carp," his dad told us.

"On his bream rod, Joey cast a trimmed-down boilie topped with a piece of corn to a spot just off an island where there was around 8ft of water."

“The next morning he hooked a fish that gave a typical bream fight. After he netted it, I peered into the mesh and my head was blown! I’ve never seen a bream so big!"

"I tried explaining the significance of the fish, but I still don’t think he understands!"
