Jason Atkins was left utterly shocked on a recent fishing session, when he landed a truly enormous bass weighing 16lb 5oz.
Fishing a mark on the South coast, Jason was primarily targeting sole and as such was using tiny, fine-wire size 2 hooks which could have easily bent out whilst playing the huge bass. In fact, he had to watch in angst as the bass surfaced early in the fight, before plodding around for another 10 minutes before he managed to land it.

"I went down to the reefs on the southwest coast in search of a sole, using some leftover lugworm and ragworm from a previous trip," Jason told us.
"I fished with a pulley rig using lighter tactics, comprising of a 30lb Amnesia snood with size 2 Varivas Aberdeen hooks."
"As a buddy of mine turned up to talk to me, the rod pulled over like I had hooked a ray at first, but then the fish sprinted towards us, kiting up and down for a total of 10 minutes."
"We couldn't bully the fish on light gear, so we let it beach itself before realizing how big it actually was."
"We managed to get it in a pool to recover before releasing it after a few photos," he said.
