ONE of the joys of lure fishing is that it’s easy to grab a quick-fire session when the opportunity arises, and Callum Davies certainly made the most of a spare hour on the banks of the Thames when he landed this 4lb 10oz perch.
He was fishing a drop shot rig tight to the side of a moored boat, and as he lifted his rod to twitch the lure, felt a heavy resistance. After initially assuming it was weed, Callum was startled to then feel a firm headshake down the line, so he struck into the fish. When he got a glimpse of it a rodlength out, he realised the size of the perch he’d hooked, but thankfully, after a few short but powerful final runs, the fish was his.
