It's been a relatively slow winter for chub anglers so far, with mixed conditions making things tricky on many rivers. However, Steve Fenton managed to get out on the Lea Navigation lately – a canalised stretch of the River Lea – and duly landed this specimen of 7lb 12oz.

The fish came to his only bite of a session, during which he fished four different swims. Bread was the successful bait – Steve fished a piece of flake on a size 8 hook and a fluorocarbon hooklink. This was presented below a feeder packed with liquidised bread.

Interestingly, Steve noticed that the fish has a distinct orange tinge to its lower lip, making it an easy individual to identify the next time it is caught.
